kitchen 'makeover'

We 'put in' new counter tops a couple weeks ago to give our kitchen a face lift!
What these counter tops actually are is paint! Now if we were in a house of our own we would put in real counter tops but since this is a temporarily permanent house it has been fun to play around with different colors and themes throughout the house. So far I really like my black counter tops. And our new stove is black also! Would have liked stainless but will keep that for another day another house. I have been toying with the idea of what to do with the back splash on these counters. Should they be black also? Or would you go for another color altogether? The walls in these pictures are kind of washed out. In real life they are a bit darker and more of a tan color. The sunflowers on the cupboards have a dark green in them but have wondered if that would be to dark to go behind a black counter. There is not much for light in the kitchen. Would love to know what our readers think!

I really like the black. I have seen some kitchens in magazines with the stainless steel tiles for the backsplash and it is really easy to clean and brightens it up a lot with reflecting light. I don't know if that would be an option or not.

The black countertop is great! I'd keep the back splash light colored.

The black looks fabulous! I agree with mom... Lighter colored black splash to contrast with the counters. Have you considered tiling the backsplash? The texture would be nice with the flat cabinet style. Very easy to DIY (I did my own in Utah), and while it would be more expensive than paint, it isn't bad if you pick an in-stock option from HD or Lowes.

Thanks for the input! Tile would be awesome. Might have to shop around.

They have those sticky "sheets" of miniature tiles that you just stick over the existing surface, or maybe you have to glue them on somehow, I can't remember. It looks pretty easy though, but I'm not sure about the expense. Cool countertops, how fun to be able to change things up! :)

Another idea: you could smash up mirror or plates and make a cool design for the backsplash. My aunt did that with mirror material and made a swirl design-also painted her cupboards with black chalk paint! Awesome!
